The Chess.com screenshot workflow

1. Take a screenshot of the Chess.com board on your phone or computer. 2. Open ChessScreenshot.com. 3. Select that screenshot. 4. We detect the board and which way it is facing. 5. You see the best move.

That is the whole flow — no FEN, no rebuilding the board.

Tips for clean Chess.com screenshots

Portrait phone screenshots are fine — the board sits in the middle and we crop to it automatically, ignoring the clocks and move list. Capture the whole board without a menu or your finger over the pieces.

Most Chess.com board themes and piece sets read well. If you are playing Black the board is flipped, and we handle that; you can also switch sides after the result. If a screenshot ever reads wrong, use Fix Position to correct it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the best move from a Chess.com screenshot?

Screenshot the board, upload it here, and the best move appears on the reconstructed board. Nothing is typed by hand.

Is this an official Chess.com tool?

No. ChessScreenshot is independent and not affiliated with Chess.com.

Does a flipped board (playing as Black) work?

Yes. Orientation is detected, and the side at the bottom is taken as the side to move. You can switch sides after the result if needed.

Can I use this during a live game?

No. Using outside analysis in live rated games breaks Chess.com's fair-play rules. Use it to review and learn afterwards.

Is it free?

Yes. The board is read and analyzed right in your browser, there is no sign up, and you can do it as many times as you like.
